Symptoms
It surprises many patients when they discover
chiropractic doctors do not treat symptoms. A
medical approach is to treat symptoms. This is done
by using drugs or surgery to numb, slow down speed
up, or cut out the malfunctioning body part.
Instead, chiropractic doctors find the underlying
cause(s) of your ache or pain and correct it.
Back Pain
The nerve-rich facet joints on the back side of the
spinal bone are a common cause of back pain. If
these pairs of interlocking "fingers" are not moving
correctly, they can cause painful symptoms.
Degeneration
Subluxation Degeneration is how the body responds to
improperly functioning spinal joints. With early
detection, appropriate chiropractic has been shown
to slow, stop, or even reverse the early stages of
this process.
Headaches
A cause of headaches can be from spinal bones in the
neck that aren't supporting your head properly. They
are not moving correctly. this can affect nerves,
muscles and even the blood supply to your head.
Neck Pain
Your neck is the most vulnerable part of your spine.
Not only does it support your 10-12 pound head,
maintain a gentle curve, and permit your head
rotation, but it must also allow free flow of nerve
impulses to the head, face, hands and the rest of
your body. Besides discomfort and annoyance, chronic
neck pain is a sign something is wrong.
Pregnancy
Chiropractors are trained in adjusting the spines of
pregnant women and many adjusting tables have
special modifications for pregnant women.
Sciatica
Those suffering from sciatica are often in their 40s
and 50s. It usually begins as an acute pain in the
lower back and then extends down the back of either
leg. The pain usually worsens with long periods of
sitting or standing.
Scoliosis
Scoliosis affects boys, but more frequently girls,
between the ages of 8 to 18. the cause varies. Some
are born with this spinal deviation (congenital).
Others get it from assuming a distorted head and hip
position (habitual). Sadly, in many cases the cause
is still unknown.
Spinal Decay
Your body adapts to uncorrected spinal stress by
depositing calcium into affected joints. As if your
body is trying to mend a broken bone, it attempts to
"repair" the malfunctioning spinal joint by joining
the two segments together. This slow, relentless
degenerative process is known as "spinal decay".
Spinal Disc
The intervertebral disc is a special type of
cartilage that connects and cushions the 24 bones of
your spinal column. Each disc attached to the
vertebra above and below it. This provides the
proper spacing for pairs of nerve roots to exit the
spine from between each joint. A disc can thin,
wedge, bulge, protrude, tear or herniated, but it
doesn't slip. Safe and natural chiropractic can
help.
Strains and
Sprains
Strains and sprains are caused when a joint is
forced beyond its normal range of motion, or when
you overuse muscles that are out of shape and have
not warmed up properly. Back strain can occur when
you suddenly twist your back or lift without bending
your knees.
Whiplash
A whiplash injury can straighten the natural forward
curve in the neck, stretching the spinal cord.
Symptoms can appear months and even years after an
automobile accident.
